... ... continue from part 2
Jaq is now a Project Manager. She is now responsible of the successful completion of the project. Her responsibilities include managing the schedule, budget, and scope of works. She coordinates the deployment of new versions of applications amongst the many programmers, technicians and engineers. She is the main focal point for lead project manager from HQ.
Using self-designed strategies to handle office politics, Jaq had been coping well with her new responsibilities as a project manager.
When we met for our coaching session, she was feeling rather down. She said that she was feeling stressed and unable to motivate herself and her team members, she said, and was worried about project delays.
Jaq’s desired outcome from that session was to identify the cause of her negative feelings, and to design an action plan to move forward the project, the team, and her. With this in mind, we embarked on an exploration journey.
When the focus eventually shifted back to Jaq herself, she broke down and shared that she was very upset and badly affected by her recent relationship break-up.
After I thanked Jaq for trusting me with her feelings, she went on to use the time and space to “let it all out”. Before long, she felt more composed and was ready to move on and move forward.
At the end of our session, Jaq committed to an action plan of her own design.
As I reflect on this experience with Jaq, I was reminded that our personal well-being and state of mind can greatly affect our performance at work and at play.
Sweeping our emotions under the carpet is never the way to handle them. All emotions are good as they carry messages from our body to our mind. We must acknowledge how we feel and receive the message that the emotion is sending us.
In my coming posts, I will write more about feelings, emotions, and the messages that they carry.
